Fifteen suites, no two alike, on a quiet stretch of 10th Avenue in the Zazil-Ha neighborhood. Newport House feels less like checking into a hotel and more like borrowing a well-designed apartment from someone with very good taste -- and a rooftop pool.
The north end of Playa del Carmen still moves at walking pace. The cenote bars and mezcalerias of 5th Avenue are one block south. The Caribbean is a fifteen-minute bike ride east. But up on that rooftop, surrounded by fan palms and a pool that catches the late-afternoon light just right, none of that matters much.

El norte de Playa del Carmen todavia se mueve a paso de caminante. Los bares de cenote y mezcalerias de la Quinta Avenida estan a una cuadra al sur. El Caribe esta a quince minutos en bicicleta. Pero alla arriba en esa azotea, rodeado de palmeras y una piscina que atrapa la luz de la tarde, nada de eso importa mucho.

Each of the 15 apartments was designed to work for a weekend or a month. King beds with blackout curtains. Full kitchens with SMEG fridges and Italian stovetops. Organic bath amenities. Private balconies that face the tree canopy, not a parking lot. On the walls, original prints by adventure photographer Mario Entero -- because even the art here has a story.
